I've been listening to that Wildhearts stuff you sent me a few years back, and I gotta say, 29 x the pain is one of the best tunes I've ever heard. That, sick of Drugs, and TV Tan are my 3 faves. Anyway, I give up....you told me that there were 29 bands mentioned in that song, and like I've said before, I'm bad at deciphering lyrics, but I could only find about 10, but I'm guessing some are just references, such as "London Calling" meaning The Clash. I think I also heard:
    Husker Du
    Beatles
    Stones
    Ramones
    Pistols
    Cheap Trick
    Damned
    Kurt Cobain

Could you give me the run down??
Thanks again for that comp BTW.

I'll have to listen to the song again. I know all of the references in it, except for one. That one I only know I miss because Al (Alalvin) told me we were missing one. I'll have to find the lyrics, or listen to the song. I'll try to listen tonight.

Oh, and the Cobain reference is only in one of the versions of the song. Another version mentions Richey James. Then I do believe there is another version yet that has somebody else in there. Maybe a live version?

Here are the lyrics (that I found). I still can't come up with 29. I see some references are album titles? Can anyone find 29?

here, sitting in my room, with The Replacements and Husker Du, like a rebel without a clue
and the Beatles and the Stones get to hang out with Ramones
and the Pistols shunning fame, as they sing the old refrain
as they always will again, like 29 x the pain
I see Starz, and the moon is Big and Black, well there's a full Sheer Heart Attack
a-but the cheapest trick of all is when I hear that London call
I need something and I need it fast, I need Jason Scorching past
I need to feel they feel the same, 'cos when they almost know my name it's like 29 x the pain

    times the pain
29 x the pain, times the rain
29 x the pain, times the pain
times the pain, but it all ends up the same
    (thanks [Pink/Pete/??])

kiss my heart, like The Damned did from the start
c'mon make me feel like me, S.L.F. or B.O.C.
give me old, give me new, lend me all you're feeling too
'cos the sounds that twist and curl, it's a brave new world

I'm up, I could not get down, well I get all my friends around
and I can be there once again, I'm gonna miss Kurt Cobain
just like 29 x the pain

    times the pain
29 x the pain, times the pain
29 x the pain, times the pain
times the pain (and all the gaps and all the pain)
times the pain (tomorrow always cries my name)
times the pain - it makes it all worthwhile again

    CHORUS:

btw, this is interesting, but American Heartbreak's song Richey James uses a line from a Dogs D'Amour tune.

Hey Carl, speaking of the Wildhearts, you read my interview with Ginger yet?

Thanks Darren. I was wondering about that one.
B.O.C. is Blue Oyster Cult? or is there another BOC?

A lot of the bands in that song are represented by their lyrics instead of just mentioning their name. No way would I ever be able to figure out all of 'em. Wow, if I ever had a chance, I think I would ask Ginger.....oh.....never mind. lol

I can't think of a similar (to SLF)
1979 - Present punk band called BOC,
but it could be a reference to a 1970s
oddball show called Beyond Our Control.
